We’re in Taiwan!

Posted: June 2, 2011 in Taiwan, Travel

We have arrived in Taipei…we’re 12 hours ahead of the time at home. All in all, it was a pretty smooth flight. . .just long. I normally don’t mind the long flights but this is the first time I have “followed” the sunlight. It was daylight for almost all of our three flights (about 24 hours total), making it much harder to sleep. I think I prefer the overnight flights, but this schedule may work better for us in recovering from jet lag. I did watch three good movies en route to Tokyo: Tangled, The Adjustment Bureau & The King’s Speech. (An update, too, on my ear infection: I did pretty well with the ear pressure on the flights– a little discomfort on the smaller plane but fine once we boarded the big jet to Tokyo. Thank you to everyone who prayed my ears would feel better in time for our trip.)

We had a connecting flight through Narita International Airport near Tokyo. We were hoping to catch a glimpse of Tokyo as we landed, but it was cloudy and rainy. By the time we were below the clouds, we were landing at the airport.

Here is a photo for our kids – I promised I would take a photo of the plane we were on for our flight to Tokyo. The second photo is the view from our hotel in Taipei – it’s of the Grand Hotel, across the river from where we are staying. We are at a hotel a little further downtown, The Riviera. More on that tomorrow…it’s time for bed.

Hooray! Glad you made it in safely and that your ears didn’t trouble you too much.

I’m with your kids: taking a picture of the plane is a good idea. It’s so useful to have in talking through our kids’ adoption stories with them (“This is the plane that Mommy & Daddy flew on when we came to Taiwan to meet you…”).

    Won’t be long now!
