Shopping for travel necessities

Posted: May 17, 2011 in Adoption, Travel

I started shopping for our trip – our dining room is starting to look like a small pharmacy. Pictured above:

  • a 28-inch duffel bag we can pack and use for our trip home (so we have plenty of room for souvenirs, baby gear, dirty laundry, etc.)
  • travel size baby wipes – we will buy baby wipes in Taiwan, but this is a handy package for airplane travel
  • first-aid kit
  • Culturelle: This will hopefully help off-set any digestive issues that come with traveling; we will start taking it a few days before we travel
  • Dramamine
  • Shout & Tide detergent; I also want to pick up some of the Woolite sink detergent for use in our hotel room. I used the Tide detergent when we stayed at a hotel that had a regular washing machine for use by guests.
  • Desitin: this is a brand I trust (rather than buying a random brand in Taiwan).
  • toothpaste
  • hairspray: If it keeps raining in Taiwan, my hair is going to turn into frizz-ville.
  • hand sanitizer
  • Tylenol, Advil, Pepto Bismol
  • Travel-size deodorant/antiperspirant
  • Wet wipes for general use

There are a couple more items I still need to buy: Space Bags for travel; Immodium; travel-size roll of toilet paper…just in case; Benadryl (for us and our baby); and some mosquito protection. We will buy most things we need for our baby once we arrive in Taiwan (ie. diapers, bottles, stroller).

congratulations! how exciting to be shopping for your new son!
I read your blog before we went to pick up our boy late last year.
One thing you might want to consider picking up is a small thermos for hot water, I saw someone else travel with it and wished that i had one.
    Have a great trip!
