Returning to the topic of packing light for our trip to Taiwan, here is our packing list for our new baby:
- About 7 outfits
- Toiletry items (baby wash & shampoo, washcloths, burp cloths)
- Neosporin, Baby Benadryl, Baby Motrin & Baby Tylenol
- Ergo baby carrier
- 2-3 toys (rattle, teething toy)
You may be wondering about diapers and other items needed for a baby. We opted last time to buy several items in Taiwan, and will likely do the same thing again. Here is our shopping list once we arrive in Taiwan:
- baby food
- bowl & spoon
After going to the orphanage, we will likely plan another trip to the store to buy a pacifier like the one our son used at the orphanage, as well as additional baby clothes if the ones we have brought are too big or too small.
On our previous trip to adopt, I wondered how we would make bottles for our son in our hotel room. He liked his bottles to be very warm. It seemed every hotel we stayed in had an electric tea kettle in the room. I heated up a small amount of water in the kettle, then poured about one ounce into the bottle. I then used bottled water to fill the rest of the bottle. This worked for the flight home, too – the flight attendant was happy to put some hot water in the bottle for me to mix with bottled water for my son’s bottle. (A special thanks to our agency’s in-country coordinator, Sally, for sharing this tip with us while on the high speed rail back to Taipei.)
We shopped at Carrefour and RT Mart in Taiwan. I know some families have also shopped at the Ding Ding Pharmacy – Sarah shared some detailed photos of this store on her blog, and Judy provided a helpful taxi card on her blog which I plan to print just in case we need it on this trip. Thanks Sarah and Judy!
